Keeping it’s concentration and effectiveness in mind, there is a downside to storing STA-BIL (and pretty much any other fuel stabilizer) and that is that they use a sacrificial molecule to actually suspend the oxidation process of gasoline. Oxidation will actually attack this molecule before it has a chance to varnish your gasoline.
Because of this, the shelf life of opened STA-BIL that has had the seal broken (but cap replaced and tight) and been exposed to air is about 2 years. Keeping this in mind, our recommendation is to purchase only the amount that you will need at a time. The good thing is that it can be used in any gasoline equipment that sits for extended periods of time, so a bottle of STA-BIL can be used up pretty quick!

3. PRI-G

While it’s said to have the capability of keeping gasoline fresh for many years, it is recommended to refresh your fuel after a year of sitting if you will be storing it for longer.

The dosage amount of Seafoam varies depending on whether you are looking to clean your machines fuel system, or simply store gas. For simply storing and stabilizing gasoline, Seafoam Motor Treatment will treat 1 gallon of gas per 1 ounce of stabilizer.

6. Royal Purple Max Clean
If you’re into racing, or cars of any kind, you probably already know that Royal Purple is known for their high end products. When it comes to caring for your engine, Royal Purple has always been the leader of the pack. They have also created a fuel system cleaner and stabilizer that follows in their great product line. Although Royal Purple Max-Clean stabilizes fuel, it has a few additional qualities that make it useful for more than just fuel storage:
- Stabilizes fuel during low use and storage periods
- Cleans fuel injectors, carburetors, and other components within the fuel system
- Increases fuel economy
- Reduces emissions
- Prevents corrosion and oxidation
Dosage Guide For Royal Purple Max Clean
With Royal Purple being less focused on only fuel treatment and stabilizers, their Max Clean is only offered in one size. The current bottle available comes in 20 ounces and can treat up to 20 gallons. In general, Max Clean can treat 1 gallon of gasoline per 1 ounce of stabilizer. If the fuel you are treating is greater than 20 gallons, you will have to buy more than one bottle to treat all of the fuel.
Royal Purple does not give a specific time period for how long Max Clean will stabilize and keep fuel fresh for during storage. If being used to treat engines, they do recommend using in your gasoline every 10,000 miles. While Max Clean is capable of stabilizing your gasoline, some of the other options above may be more recommended if you are primarily focused on storage. If you are interested in storage and performance, then Max Clean may be the right option for you!

Depending on what your ultimate goal is, there are a few different options to choose from when keeping your fuel fresh. If your main goal is simply storage, the STA-BIL Storage product is probably the one for you as it’s focus is on just that!
